One of the world’s largest security firms, FireEye, was hacked, and the tools FireEye uses to test the networks of its customers were stolen. Like Symantec, Trend, Kaspersky, RSA and Bit9 before them, it just proves that no business is exempt from individual bad actors, Nation-States, or any other group around the globe.
In fact, FireEye’s prediction for 2021 that “Major nation-state threat actors continuing efforts in 2021 will include Russia, China, Iran and North Korea” hit home, presenting a precursor for the new year. If this isn’t a wakeup call to every business large or small, then I really don’t know what is.
We may never find out the true details of what happened to FireEye, but this breach sends a shot across the bow demonstrating how vulnerable every business is. Not only are security tools a must but every organization must be vigilant with security, compliance, and the diligence to protect their valued assets.
Compliance structures and security awareness within our businesses needs to be improved and an automated mechanism to manage them must be powerful. BostonCOMPLY and the Practical Compliance Automation™ is that platform.
